As measles outbreaks are occurring in California and other states, the Arizona Department of Health Services is reporting no rampant activity within the state.

Jessica Rigler from AZDHS said there has been just one reported case of measles in Arizona so far this year, but she is still urging caution.

“We know that measles is just a plane ride away," Rigler said. 'There are outbreaks going on all over the world as well as in six jurisdictions across the country. So it’s really important for people to make sure that their children are vaccinated so they can be protected from measles here in Arizona.”

Rigler said the state’s immunization rate among kindergartners is 93 percent. But she said elevating that rate by two percentage points would make a big difference guarding against measles.
