Rural Arizona Districts, Charters Receive Latest School Bus Funds From State
A fifth wave of funding is going to more school buses for rural Arizona school districts.
The money comes from a Volkswagen settlement agreement after the federal government sued the company for violating the Clean Air Act.
About $36.5 million of Arizona’s portion have gone to new school buses.
The state specifically chose rural school districts and charter schools to get the 45 new buses in the latest round of funding. For many of the school districts, this is the first allocation of buses from the settlement program.
Along with several other, mainly rural, counties, Pinal County received buses for eight schools and Yuma County received six.
