Advocates for the homeless will meet in Phoenix starting Tuesday in a continuing effort to eliminate the problem.

Arizona Coalition Director Joan Serviss says it’s too bad a conference is needed 20 years after the problem was recognized. But she says there are many different faces to homelessness.

“You have veteran homelessness, or chronic homelessness, family and children homelessness or youth on their own or those that suffer from serious mental illness, or drug or alcohol addiction,” Serviss said.

She says, in Phoenix, they’re on track to end veteran homelessness by 2015, and they hope to use the same strategies to tackle the issue in other populations.
