Protesters gathered on Seventh Avenue and Buckeye Road to begin their march.

A group of protesters marched to Phoenix police headquarters in downtown Phoenix on Monday night, demanding the name of the officer who shot and killed Rumain Brisbon last week.

More than 50 people gathered on Seventh Avenue to ask for the police officer's name. Assistant to the Phoenix Police Chief Gerald Richard watched the demonstrators as they marched in front of the police building.

“We know that throughout the entire United States, everyone is taking a look at not only Phoenix, but Ferguson and New York," he said. "We try to allow individuals to exercise their First Amendment rights in a nonviolent way and get their message across.”

Richard said the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative while the investigation is ongoing. Activists and community members have taken to the streets since then to ask for action. The Rev. Jarrett Maupin said they will continue until they get justice.

“Justice is an indictment," he said. "Justice is an independent investigation into what happened to Rumain by another police agency that’s not the Phoenix PD."

Police officials said they would not release the officer’s name because it is part of an ongoing investigation.

The autopsy report indicates the cause of Brisbon’s death was gunshot wounds to the torso.
