On Tuesday, One Community, a Valley Coalition working toward LGBTQ inclusion, announced a bipartisan bill to update the state’s non-discrimination law. Currently, Arizona has no statewide laws that protect gay and transgender individuals from being fired, denied housing or refused service.

This is the second year in a row this bill has been introduced since it didn’t get a hearing last year.

But now, Angela Hughey, president of One Community, said this year’s effort has more bipartisan names and statewide businesses backing it.

But this bill announcement comes at a tricky time for LGBTQ discrimination. Just last Tuesday, the Arizona Supreme Court heard a challenge to a Phoenix law that bans discrimination based on sexual orientation from a wedding invitation company.

With that court case ongoing, The Show asked Hughey if they expect pushback to their proposed bill.
