The fight over immigration reform and border security has become nastier during the course of this midterm election campaign.

Immigrants from Mexico who have come to the United States — some of whom have been here for decades — say they feel less comfortable these days and even targeted for negativity at times.

And even as some states like Arizona work to maintain good relations with Mexico, there is more doubt when it comes to the federal government’s efforts to get along with our southern neighbor.

Alfredo Corchado has personal experience on both sides of the border and as an immigrant himself. He wrote about that in his book, "Homelands."
