Among the sandy beaches, nature trails and camping sites, Windsor Beach at Lake Havasu State Park also contains artifacts of great archaeological importance — or so says a former Arizona State Parks and Trails compliance watchdog.

Stones for making tools and weapons created before the advent of Spanish Colonialism have co-existed quietly with today’s fun-seekers.

But now, an investigation by Phoenix New Times writer Steven Hsieh says that might have changed irrevocably.

Arizona State Parks, led by embattled Director Sue Black, has leveled the site “with heavy machinery” for an unclear reason.

Hsieh says archeologists are concerned.
