On a yearly basis, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation awards a number of MacArthur fellowships — commonly known as "genius grants." Earlier this month, the foundation chose 25 people to receive the $625,000 grant.

According to the foundation, selections are made based upon three criteria: exceptional creativity, promise for important future advances based on a track record of significant accomplishments and potential for the fellowship to facilitate subsequent creative work.

Among the 25 who will receive the grant this year is poet and ASU Associate Professor Natalie Diaz. She joined The Show to talk about it.
