The deadline is fast approaching to register to vote in the Nov. 6 election. But you can never register through a phone call.

Officials are warning about a nationwide scam that involves asking potential voters to register by phone.

Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes said the best thing to do in that situation is hang up.

“No one from any official organization or any government agency will be calling to try to get you to register over phone. That is a scam. So you can just hang up and go to servicearizona.com to register to vote… But do not share personal information over the phone," Fontes said.

The deadline to register for the general election is Oct. 9. Arizona residents can register online or in-person at their county recorder’s office.
