No department video exists of the night a rookie Arizona trooper was fatally shot on the job. That’s because the Arizona Department of Public Safety doesn't have body cameras.

Nor are all department vehicles equipped with dash cameras. DPS Spokesman Bart Graves says the department has not requested body cameras for its troopers and it has not looked into how much they would cost.

He says the technology, while nice to have, is not crucial to the department's mission.

Authorities say 24-year-old Trooper Tyler Edenhofer and other officers were struggling with the alleged shooter for several minutes when he got hold of a trooper's gun and fired two shots, killing Edenhofer and wounding Trooper Dalin Dorris.
