Jennifer Adams will join Tempe's City Council on July 26, 2018.

Tempe will swear in its newest City Council member, Jennifer Adams, on Thursday.

Tempe Councilman David Schapira did not seek re-election and is running to be Arizona superintendent of public instruction, the top public schools job in the state.

Jennifer Adams won a seat on the council in the city’s March election. Adams was a longtime employee in Tempe’s public works department before retiring last year. The Arizona Republic reported Adams filed two complaints of gender discrimination with the city during her tenure there.
