The California Supreme Court earlier this week adopted a broader definition of who is an employee and could make it more difficult for companies to classify workers as independent contractors.

That’s important in a lot of jobs, especially in the so-called “gig economy,” where workers who aren’t considered employees often aren’t eligible for benefits or subject to minimum wage laws.

Joining The Show to talk about the ruling and what it’ll mean for both workers and their employers is Veena Dubal, an associate law professor at the University of California.
