The Knoll Fire, which has been burning near Payson over the past few days is now 60 percent contained. Carrie Templin is a spokeswoman for the Tonto National Forest. She said 140 people were working on the fire Saturday and crews were able to keep people from having to evacuate their homes.

"There was a small private community below where the fire started and there were some initial concerns," Templin said. "But firefighters did an excellent job of getting a line between those homes and that fire and so there’s no longer any threat to anything in the area.”

Templin said the containment percentage is expected to increase by the end of the day. The fire was first reported on Friday morning and it was started by fireworks.
