Ducey Says He'll Protect 2nd Amendment, Not Politicize Florida School Shooting
Gov. Doug Ducey said he has no clear idea of how to prevent mass shootings at schools. But he said he will protect the Second Amendment and will not politicize the school massacre in Florida.
Lawmakers in both parties sent a letter to the governor asking him to establish a task force on gun violence.
Ducey said he has received the letter and plans to talk with legislative leadership, but he’s not prepared to take on the gun debate at the state level.
“These are issues that are going to require more than one governor, one state to participate. I think you're going to have to have law enforcement, education, school leaders around a table," Ducey said.
During his three years in office, Ducey has maintained the NRA’s support and loosened Arizona’s gun control laws, including banning legislation requiring background checks on firearms sold at gun shows and in private sales.
