Gov. Doug Ducey’s legislation on Arizona’s opioid crisis passed last week. Ducey signed SB1001 on Friday, Jan. 26 at the State Capitol.

The Arizona Opioid Epidemic Act limits a first opioid prescription to five days, but does not try to restrict existing long-term prescriptions. It also provides $10 million to give those with little or no health insurance access to treatment.

Ducey signed the bill while he was surrounded by Republican and Democratic lawmakers who helped craft it.

"I want to thank all of our legislature (this was a unanimous vote) for putting party labels and politics aside and getting this done,” Ducey said.

Ducey said this is a comprehensive bill, which addresses the medical, law enforcement and addiction communities.
