The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GHOS) reports the number of drunk driving incidents in Arizona fell in 2017.

The numbers are preliminary, but promising.

“There was a total of 25,901 DUI arrests,” said Alberto Gutier, GOHS director. “It’s a big improvement from 2013 and 2014, where we had 32,000 and 31,000 DUI arrests.”

Gutier credited the decline to the department’s DUI campaign telling motorists to call for a ride or face increased fines.

While he also credited a concentrated law enforcement effort on Arizona highways, he did not mention that ride sharing services began in Arizona two months before DUI numbers began trending downward.
