The Arizona Cardinals will have a new quarterback atop their depth chart next season as the Carson Palmer era has come to a close.

Palmer announced his retirement Tuesday, one day after head coach Bruce Arians did the same.

A former Heisman Trophy winner and Number 1 overall pick, Palmer played 15 seasons in the NFL, including the last five in Arizona.

He had a career year in 2015, leading the Cardinals to the NFC Championship Game. But injuries cut short his seasons in 2014 and 2017, and, in an open letter released Tuesday, Palmer said he just knew it was time to retire.
