Arizona drivers saw a few fluctuations in fuel costs in 2017. Gas prices are expected to go down into early 2018.

The summer months are usually the time that demand for fuel starts to decrease, but with several natural disasters this year, demand didn’t die down like it usually does.

However, AAA Arizona spokeswoman Michelle Donati said 2017 was still a pretty mild year for gas prices in Arizona.

“Statewide average at the start of the year was just above the $2.10 per gallon mark," Donati said. "So we’re ending the year now about 20 cents above that with today’s statewide average of $2.31 per gallon.”

Donati said gas prices remained higher after a more active hurricane season and significant damage was done to infrastructure throughout the country.

Gas prices started to go down at the beginning of December and Donati said they should remain fairly low until Spring.
