ASU Explores Groundbreaking Collaboration With Vietnam
A delegation of government and education leaders representing Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City met with ASU President Michael Crow Monday.
The purpose was to sign a memorandum of understanding for a five-year alliance between the two higher education facilities.
ASU already has an extensive footprint in Vietnam and other regions of Southeast Asia, but the MOU would advance its charter of global societal engagement, focusing on advancing the quality of engineering education.
Jeff Goss, lead on the Vietnam initiative in Asia, said past curricula at partner facilities emphasized lectures and exams over experiential learning.
“So what we did in those institutes, we focused more on bringing those active, project-based activities both in and outside of the classrooms so students had more experience doing engineering rather than taking exams,” Goss said.
The alliance is funded in part by Intel and USAID.
