The latest hearing took place Wednesday in what the judge says will be a complicated trial.

Aaron Juan Saucedo was not in court to hear the update from his and the state’s lawyers on their trial preparation.

The former city bus driver is charged with nine counts of murder in the last few years that were dubbed "Serial Street Shootings" as several others were shot and injured. Most of the murders happened at night, from a car and seemingly at random.

The 23-year-old’s lawyers say they are examining thousands of pages of documents before the trial.

Saucedo has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The next hearing is scheduled for the end of January.
