A sales tax that helps fund the Yavapai County Jail District is set to expire.

According to the Verde Independent, the quarter cent tax, which provides the jail district with nearly half its revenue, is set to expire in 2020.

The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to add a measure to the March ballot so residents could decide if they will continue the tax.

It came into effect after overcrowded jail conditions led to a Department of Justice investigation in the 1990s.
