Joe Arpaio's Attorneys Ask Judge To Reject Friend-Of-Court Briefs
Former Sheriff Joe Arpaio wants a judge who found him guilty in his now-pardoned criminal case to reject requests from three outside groups to file friend-of-the-court briefs in the case.
The groups are asking for U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton to declare the pardon invalid or unconstitutional.
Arpaio's attorneys filed court papers Tuesday asking Bolton to reject the requests.
His lawyers also have asked Bolton to officially void his conviction for intentionally disobeying a judge's order in an immigration case.
Bolton hasn't yet carried out the formality of dismissing the case in response to the pardon granted by President Donald Trump.
The former sheriff's attorneys also want Bolton to throw out the 14-page ruling that explains the reasoning his conviction.
Prosecutors have said the ruling should be voided.
