Border Patrol Statistics show that illegal immigration along the Southwest border has shifted to the east in recent years.

The number of people caught crossing the border illegally in Texas rose from 125,000 in fiscal 2009 to more than 225,000 this past fiscal year.

That’s an 80 percent increase during that period.

According to the Cronkite News Service, there were steep declines on the rest of the border, with a  57 percent drop over those years in the sectors covering Arizona, New Mexico and California.
