Thousands were instantly homeless after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. Some of them are still trying to find a new place to live.
Despite Shutdown, Lake Pleasant Stays Open
Lake Pleasant Park Supervisor David Jordan says the lake is open and expects a large influx of visitors who are unable to enjoy other parks.
“We’ve been working with out staff just to kind of get
prepared for it, trying to be as accommodating as we can,”
Jordan says while the Bureau of Reclamation owns the land on which Lake Pleasant is located, the park is managed by the Maricopa County Parks Department, which allows it to remain open even when the federal government is shut down.
