The Pima County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to ban the practice of gay conversion therapy on minors.

The vote passed 3-2 in favor, with Democrats supporting the measure and Republicans opposing it.

Minors will still be able to discuss issues of sexual orientation with licensed therapists or religious practitioners, but this measure makes it illegal to collect a fee for such therapy.

Any violation of the new resolution is a civil offense, and perpetrators could be charged up to $2,500.
