The Arizona Driver’s Manual was recently updated. Toward the back of the new manual, you’ll now find a section on traffic stop safety, including what to do if you’re a driver carrying a firearm.

The manual emphasizes that drivers should keep their hands visible on the steering wheel and tell the officer right away they have a firearm and where it is.

It also says drivers should not reach around inside the vehicle, and that if they need to grab something, to tell the officer first that’s what they’re about to do.

Rep. Reginald Bolding, a Democrat from Laveen, was involved in crafting the new advice in the manual, and he joins us now.
