The Mesa City Council recently approved, in principle, a new mixed-use development.

The development will be up to 15 stories and hold a 75-room boutique hotel as well as 75 luxury apartment units. A nearby building will become home to a 7,000-square-foot food court and a 5,000-square-foot convention space.

Mesa’s downtown transformation manager Jim McVay said this building will be hold a special title in Mesa.

“Right now we have a 13-story building, which is our tallest building down here," McVay said. "If this does end up having the overall height equivalent to 15 stories, it will become our tallest building.”

McVay said Mesa City Council still needs to approve the full development agreement, which may or may not include city-provided incentives. McVay said he expects that to be done by December of this year. From that point, construction would begin in a year and be completed in 18 to 24 months.
