NM Senator Recommends Research Lab To Find Best Route For New Transmission Line

September 23, 2013

A proposed electricity transmission line that would extend from Lincoln County in New Mexico, southeast of Albuquerque, to Pinal County is facing some challenges.

The Pentagon says the construction of the SunZia transmission line could interfere with training at the White Sands Missile Range. Now, New Mexico Senator Martin Heinrich is suggesting that the Defense Department use a research lab to find ways to allow construction of the line.

But the company behind SunZia says it would have to kill the project if the preferred route is rejected.
