Immigrants' Rights Activists Reconsidering Efforts For ID Cards

For more than two years, activists have waged a grass-roots fight to convince Phoenix leaders to create a city identification card available to all residents — including undocumented workers. The effort worked, resulting in the majority Democratic-leaning City Council to agree to create the card.

Now the same immigrant-rights activists who pushed for the card’s creation are reconsidering their efforts. They’re concerned the cards could end up being counterproductive, hurting the undocumented population it was meant to help.
