Mesa Names New Police Chief

The city of Mesa announced its new police chief Wednesday. Tucson Assistant Police Chief Ramon Batista will take on the role.

Batista has been with the Tucson Police Department for 31 years and assistant police chief since 2014.

As an assistant chief, he was responsible for the Patrol Bureau and now the Investigative Bureau.

The Mesa Police Department has about 1,200 employees and a budget of more than $175 million.

The city will hold a news conference in June to officially introduce Batista to the community.
