U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has a long history of supporting school choice — including school vouchers and charter schools — stemming back to her time as chair of the American Federation for Children, a school choice advocacy organization.

That was DeVos addressing members of the media right before giving a speech at the American Federation for Children’s National Policy Summit.

In that speech she criticized the “defenders of our current system,” calling them “flat earthers.” She also said the Trump administration is “proposing the most ambitious expansion of education choice in our nation's history.”

But what exactly that proposal is remains unclear.

The administration’s budget proposal includes money to expand school vouchers and charter schools, but also appears to cut some education funding.

I spoke earlier with Preston Green. He’s a professor of Educational Leadership and Law and the University of Connecticut and I asked for his initial takeaways, based on what we know now.
