Gosar And Kirkpatrick Discuss The Future Of Superior's Copper Industry

August 20, 2013

Two members of Arizona’s Congressional delegation will be in Superior Tuesday night to discuss the future of the region’s copper industry. Republican Paul Gosar and Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick are pushing legislation to revive the Superior Mine project.

"We believe there’s a way we can work together and use the legislative process to develop a bill that delivers thousands of jobs to the region," Kirkpatrick said.

The proposed bill would involve a land exchange between the federal government and Resolution Copper. That would open up land near Superior for a massive mine in exchange for protecting about 5000 acres in Arizona for conservation land.

Congress has been trying to pass the bill for years, but Native American groups say the project would harm the environment and sacred lands.
