U.S. Requests Rearrest Of Mexican Drug Lord

August 15, 2013

The United States has formally requested the rearrest of Mexican drug lord Raphael Caro Quintero.  He was unexpectedly freed from a Mexican prison last week. He had served 28 years for the 1985 kidnapping, torture and murder of Drug Enforcement Administration agent Enrique Camarena.

U.S. officials did not comment on the case, but Mexican officials have said they could not extradite Caro Quintero for the Camarena killing, meaning it  is likely he is now being sought on the drug charges.
