Arizona Home Furniture Market Picking Up

August 13, 2013

The home furnishing industry is starting to pick up again as the nation’s housing market continues to improve. According to Furniture Today, an industry newspaper, sales are expected to increase more than 4 percent this year.

Jeff Green is a Phoenix retail analyst with Jeff Green Partners. He said that a growing economy creates demand for home furniture.

"There really is a lot of pent-up demand for putting money into the home and that includes home furnishings," Green said. "These are dollars that have not been spent over the last several years."

And more demand means more stores. California retailer Living Spaces opened its first Arizona location in North Scottsdale last week.

Green said the location is in a “home furnishing hub.” Competing stores like to be near each other so consumers can compare products. He calls it the "auto-mall concept," but for furniture.
