Next April, the United States Postal Service will close its processing and distribution center in Tucson.

The postal service had already closed part of its operation in February 2013.

Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild isn’t thrilled about the closure, particularly from a jobs perspective.

"The way it affects Tucson, is first of all the loss of over 200 jobs. Some will go to Phoenix, but not all of them. It affects some small businesses, particularly those that specialize in doing bulk mail because if the bulk mail center is not here they will either go out of business ... in most cases, and some may move to Phoenix," Rothschild said.

There are 259 employees at the center. Once closed, all mail will be processed in Phoenix.

Rothschild says there are several bills floating around Congress that could reverse the closure both in Tucson and in other cities across the U.S.
