Diamondbacks Host Giants On Opening Day

A quarrel over stadium issues has dominated the offseason for the Diamondbacks, but now it’s back to baseball at Chase Field.

Arizona begins the 2017 regular season today when they host the division rival San Francisco Giants at Chase Field. And after a disastrous 2016 for the team, there’s fresh management both on and off the field.

The D-Backs new general manager Mike Hazen comes from the Red Sox, as does the team’s new field manager Torey Lovullo. Lovullo says he hopes a little of the Boston baseball influence will rub off here in Phoenix.

“It would be foolish for me to compare the two at this point in time because of that tradition there in Boston, but we certainly want to bring a lot of those traditions that we learned in Boston here, enhance them — bring them here and make it an even more special place,” Lovullo said.

Zack Greinke is already penciled in as the opening day starter today against San Francisco, and the game is sold out. The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by former Phoenix Sun, Final Four hero with Duke and two-time NCAA champion Grant Hill.

Diamondbacks opening day will coincide with Final Four Men’s basketball events happening in downtown Phoenix this weekend.
