Valley Metro Bus Drivers Could Strike

Valley bus drivers and the Valley Metro System management team continue labor negotiations through Wednesday.The two groups have been in talks this entire month. The temporary contract bus drivers have been working with expires Wednesday.

Talks continue between First Transit management and Amalgamated Transit Union local 1433. AMU represents 400 bus drivers who want better benefits and healthcare coverage among others things. First Transit made an offer last week, but it was rejected by union members.

The two groups will continue to negotiate through Wednesday. If no agreement is made, a strike could happen as soon as midnight Thursday. A strike could halt service on 40 routes in Tempe, Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler and some routes in Phoenix and Scottsdale.
