Early Monday morning, a vandal broke into the Islamic Center of Tuscon and desecrated many copies of the Quran, the Islamic holy book.

Nothing was stolen or taken, and no one was hurt. But ripped copies of the Quran were strewn all over the main prayer room.

Sgt. Kimberly Bay with the Tuscon police said they’re investigating, but right now it’s not being looked at as a hate crime.

"Until that person is in custody, it’d be difficult to say specifically what their motivation was," Bay said.

Images of the vandal were captured on the surveillance camera.

In a statement on Facebook the Islamic Center wrote that they view this as an isolated incident. That the Tuscon community has always been "kind, welcoming, and supportive."

There was a solidarity event on Tuesday evening in Tuscon to show support for the Islamic center and local Muslims.
