Phoenix
is one of several cities that are committing to increase water conservation
measures. Mayor Greg Stanton signed a
statement on Colorado River Day yesterday, aimed at efficient, cost-effective
conservation. With the river providing half the Phoenix
drinking water, Stanton
pointed to city policies that have helped reduce average residential water use
by 25-percent, since the mid-1990's.
“We’ve got plumbing codes that now require low-flow water
fixtures,” Stanton
said. “We’ve improved technology including high-efficiency washers and
dishwashers and nearly all of the city’s effluent is reused.”
After more signatures have been gathered the statement is to
be sent to both Arizona
and federal officials, in about a month.
