Ducey: Despite Education IT Budget Oversight, Teachers Will Get Paychecks
Gov. Doug Ducey is promising teachers that they will not go without pay, despite an education budget oversight in the current proposal that left out funding for the agency’s IT department.
The Arizona Department of Education said without $17 million by July, they won’t be able to run the database that calculates payments to schools.
The department said they have reached out to Ducey but have not gotten a response. But governor’s office spokesman Dan Scarpinato said they are working together to solve the problem.
"We’ve been meeting with them regularly," Scarpinato said. "And we are going to fix it and we’re going to make sure that the money is there to get teachers their salaries."
Scarpinato added the governor’s office is also talking with legislative leaders.
