All but a few very small areas of the Apache Sitgreaves forest are open for camping in time for Labor Day weekend. An earlier report about campsite closures misled people to believe the closure area was much larger than it is.

"It was in regard to a temporary camping closure that we just put into place in the San Juan fire burned area," said Pamela Baltimore with the Forest Service. "And that area is south of Vernon, we are opened for visitors this Labor Day weekend. And the temperatures look to be favorable, upper 70s and the lows at night in the 50s."

She said that most areas affected by wildfires have been cleared of hazards and reopened, but that more details about closures can be found on the Apache Sitgreaves Forest website.
