Loop 303 Closures This Weekend Part Of Larger Plan

July 12, 2013

West Valley drivers could face some delays this weekend, as the Department of Transportation prepares to open three new southbound lanes on the Loop 303.  Spokesman Doug Nintzel says that will require the closure of parts of the freeway.

“Loop 303 is going to be closed in both directions between Grand and Peoria Avenues from 9:00 tonight [Friday], through the weekend, so that crews can do the work they need to do to open for the first time, new southbound lanes, south of Grand Avenue," he said.

Barring problems with the weather, those new lanes should be open southbound by rush hour on Monday morning.

Nintzel said after rubberized asphalt is applied, the northbound lanes should open to traffic by the end of September.

The new lanes represent parts of an overall plan to complete the freeway from I-17 to I-10.

“In between Grand Avenue and Peoria Avenue in the Surprise area we are going to have three lanes in each direction, and will be continuing with our series of projects, all the way down to I-10," Nintzel said.

The entire project is due for completion by the Fall of 2014.
