Second Coconino County Resident Infected With Hantavirus

July 10, 2013

Coconino County health authorities said a second resident has been diagnosed with hantavirus, but the woman is recovering. Officials say they are investigating where the woman contracted the virus.

Authorities say a Flagstaff woman died last month from complications of the disease. Hantavirus is transmitted to people that come into contact with or breathe infected rodent droppings.

Health officials say there have now been 23 confirmed hantavirus cases in Arizona since 2006. Eleven of those victims died.
