Republican voters have chosen Michele Reagan to face off against Democrat Terry Goddard in November’s race for Secretary of State.

Reagan defeated opponents Justin Pierce and Wil Cardon in the GOP primary, winning by nearly ten points. Reagan was endorsed by Gov. Jan Brewer and received campaign funds from her independent expenditure committee.

Reagan says beating Goddard in November will take a lot of work.

“Terry Goddard in charge of elections is like the fox guarding the henhouse. And I’m going to need your help to make sure we stop him. So sleep in tomorrow because we have eight weeks to get ready so that we can take him down," Reagan said.

The Secretary of State position is second in Arizona’s governmental hierarchy. Several times in the state’s history, the Secretary of State has been elevated to Governor — including as recently as 2009, when Brewer succeeded Homeland Secretary-in-waiting Janet Napolitano.
