In addition to the boost in traffic, US Airways also reported a modest 1 percent increase in passenger revenue, reversing two months of losses. That number appears to show that average fares on the carrier have not been changing much.

Traffic grew faster for domestic flights than international ones, with the exception of Latin America. Though that region only accounts for a fraction of US Airways flights, traffic grew at more than double the rate of other international destinations.

The Tempe-based carrier hopes to complete its planned merger with American Airlines before the end of the summer. The deal is still subject to review by the Justice Department and a group of states, and it is also the target of a lawsuit by an antitrust lawyer.
