Grand Canyon University Delays Mesa Campus Plans

Grand Canyon University is delaying plans to build another campus in order to focus on its Phoenix location.

The East Valley Tribune reported Saturday that GCU officials say plans for a second Mesa campus will be postponed for a year.

The school made the announcement July 31.

Officials announced plans last year for a 100-plus-acre campus. Instead, resources will be channeled toward the construction of several residence halls, two classroom buildings, a parking garage and an engineering facility.

GCU President Brian Mueller says student demand at the Phoenix campus makes it the best place in which to invest school funds.

Mueller says the school is still committed to building in Mesa.

GCU current has more than 8,000 students enrolled.
