Navajo County Supervisor Seeks To Replace Crandell In State Senate
A former Arizona legislator who is now a Navajo County supervisor wants to run for a state Senate seat vacated by a lawmaker's death.
The Arizona Capitol Times reports that Republican Sylvia Allen announced her candidacy on Wednesday for the District 6 seat, which was held by Chester Crandell, a Heber Republican killed when he fell from a horse.
Allen served in the Senate from 2008 through 2012, when she was elected to the county Board of Supervisors.
Crandell's name will remain on the Aug. 26 primary election ballot, but Republican Party officials afterward will pick a replacement candidate to run in the general election.
Tom O'Halleran, a former legislator who held office as a Republican, is running for the Senate seat as an independent.
