Trial Set For Former Maricopa Sheriff's Office Programmer
A Jan. 6 trial has been set for the former top computer programmer for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office on charges that he hacked into the agency's computers and illegally accessed a police database after he resigned to pursue another job.
Robert Rampy is accused of using log-on information belonging to a current sheriff's employee and a county-owned laptop to access the agency's computers after he resigned in September 2012.
He has pleaded not guilty to charges of identity theft, computer tampering and unauthorized release or access to criminal history records.
The sheriff's office said Rampy used databases intended solely for police officers to see whether three people he knew were in county custody and had any outstanding warrants.
