Winter has just begun but cities around the Valley are already gearing up for spring, training that is.

Goodyear City Council recently decided to boost all spring training ticket prices, except for lawn seats, by $2. That means the cheapest ticket will cost at least $22 now. And, if you buy a ticket at the counter on game day, you’ll pay $1 more than last year.

The Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds, which play at the stadium, agreed to give Goodyear $1 per ticket sold to help the city pay for ballpark funding.

Parks and Recreation Director Nathan Torres said the ballpark had to stay competitive and help stave off a deficit in the Ballpark Capital Replacement Fund.

“Where we were positioned in the market and what some of the other facilities were doing in terms of ticket pricing and then what opportunities existed for us to try and capture additional dollars to help with our capital replacement program.”

Last year about 150,000 fans made it out to Goodyear ballpark, a record number.
