Criticism of Gov. Brewer's Medicaid expansion

June 20, 2013

Just days after being applauded for signing a Medicaid expansion that came with the support of a Republican-Democratic legislative coalition, Gov. Jan Brewer was skewered for signing a measure making sweeping changes to the state's election system. Changes Raquel Teran of Mi Familia Vota said could make criminals out of neighborhood activists, who collect and turn in early ballots.

"Its been years and years. It's knocking and we already know them. They trust our organizations and they trust our volunteers," Teran said.

Legislative Democrats say they will explore every legal avenue to make sure the Omnibus Elections bill does not become Arizona law, including asking the Justice Department to examine the possibility it violates the Voting Rights Act.
